Click on "News Briefs" (right) to learn about North Park Middle School Band students teaching Los Angeles area homeless kids how to play band instruments. The homeless students perform as members of the band when they're ready. Now, they're going to Carnegie Hall in April. The public middle school's band teacher Ron Wakefield began the program several years ago to meet a need. The band, with the homeless musicians who were ready, went to Carnegie Hall in 2007; now they're making a return trip with the band's new group of students.
